SURAT: After producing the world’s cheapest car — the Nano — Gujarat is all set to auction what is one of India’s most expensive car. The Vibrant Gujarat Investor Summit in January will have a gold and silver-plated car studded with choicest diamonds on display. Its makers are planning to auction the automobile worth crores at the summit and the proceeds will be donated to the chief minister’s relief fund.
The car is being designed by Mumbai-based sculptor Rajesh Bajaj and the plating is being done by a Rajkot company. “The car is being studded with one lakh Swarovski crystals, 2 kg gold and 25 kg silver,” Bajaj told TOI.
Asked about the price tag and the base price for the auction, Bajaj said, “We are yet to get the valuation done.” Swarovski crystals cost anywhere between Rs 2,000 and Rs 8,000 per carat. If the cheapest are considered, the crystals alone would cost around Rs 20 crore. The gold and silver plating will cost at least another Rs 75 lakh.
