AHMEDABAD: Brands from Gujarat are leaving a mark on the social media with many companies being more popular than leading national brands.For instance, Amul, an iconic brand from Gujarat has 4,10,110 ‘likes’ on a social networking site as compared to Mother Dairy, which has 20,906 likes. Similarly, Gujarat-based brands also have followers talking about and promoting them on these sites. Amul has gained over 93,000 fans in the month of June and has over 1,00,000 people talking about it on the site.
Vadilal, a Gujarat-based ice cream brand joined the Facebook bandwagon in August 2011 and now has over 3,12,000 fans – adding nearly 28,000 fans a month. Similarly, Adani Wilmar’s Fortune brand of cooking oil has 70,294 followers as compared to leading brand Saffola’s edible oil, which has 8,195 followers.These interesting findings have been recorded by a faculty of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, Aakash Srivastava. Statistics in the study show that companies from Ahmedabad have more fan-following from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad as compared to their home city.
According to Facebook, Ahmedabad has over 8,53,000 users which takes its rank to 60th among the ranked city by users in the world.
